Tracking The Royals Offense June 13, 2022

The Royals drew 23 walks in their 7 games last week and jumped all the way to 23rd in MLB in offensive walks. Usually such an accomplish wouldn’t be met with much acclaim, but finishing 23rd in walks on the season would be tied for the best season under Dayton Moore in that category.

While there hasn’t been much change in runs scored ranking for the Royals, the performances of the younger players has the arrow pointing up on the team’s offense moving forward.

The four youngest batters in the lineup – Witt Jr., Melendez, Isbel, and Rivera – have combined for 42% of the team’s home runs, 38% of the team’s walks, 35% of the team’s hits, and 100% of the team’s stolen bases over the last two weeks.

Despite the offense performing better overall, the Royals were still shut out twice last week, the 7th and 8th times that has happened this season. They were shut out 9 times all of last season.

The record is 20-39, 13.5 games out of first place; 4 games back of Detroit in last place of the AL Central.
